18-year-old dies after car wreck on Highway 9

An 18-year-old woman has died following a car wreck that took place on Highway 9 Tuesday afternoon, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

Edge said Rena Springs, 18, of Loris, died from injuries she suffered in a car accident near the intersection of Log Cabin Road and Highway 9 around 12:50 p.m.

According to information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Chevy Impala was driving west on Log Cabin Road while a Volkswagon was driving south on Highway 9 Bypass.

The Chevy Impala pulled from the stop sign at Log Cabin Road and failed to yield the right of way and was struck on the passenger side by the Volkswagon driving on Highway 9, according to the Highway Patrol.

Springs was the passenger in the Impala.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said the drivers in both cars were taken to the hospital and the crash is under investigation.

No charges have been filed at this time.
