Runoffs will be held on June 24 to determine both the Democratic and Republican candidates for South Carolina superintendent of education.
Sheila Gallagher has advanced to a runoff in the Democratic primary. She will most likely face either Tom Thompson or Rep. Jerry Govan in that runoff.
Sally Atwater and Molly Spearman have advanced to a runoff in the Republican primary for the state's schools chief.
According to unofficial returns Atwater and Spearman each received about 22 percent of the vote Tuesday to become the biggest vote getters.
The candidates are running to replace Mick Zais who announced in 2013 that we would not be seeking a second term.
The runoffs for both primaries will be held June 24.
