No big box: second reading on new plans for Pawleys Plaza

Sunbelt Ventures took new plans for a Pawleys Island shopping center before Georgetown County Council Tuesday night.

Original plans for Pawleys Plaza called for a 120,000 square foot "big box" store.

However some council members say a development that size is not allowed in that area.

Sunbelt Ventures dropped those plans last month.

Tuesday night they showed council the new plans which call for about 109-thousand square feet divided between three buildings.

Lee Brockington attended the meeting. She was against the original plans, but says as long as the plans abide by the law, development is welcome. She told us "No one here tonight I think is against progress, against having mercantile stores available to the community and providing jobs and providing goods. Decreasing trips to other places, but I think its all about keeping it within the confines of the law."

Council approved the second reading for the development, one more reading is required.
