Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, Ken Ard, confirmed to NewsChannel 15 Tuesday morning that his son was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
Ard said, "My son used poor judgement. I love my son. We will work through this as a family and I hope the public will be respectful of that."
According to the Florence County Detention Center website, James Ard, 20, was booked on a charge of Driving Under the Influence, 1st Offense at 5:55 am Tuesday morning.
According to Highway Patrol spokesman Sid Gaulden, a state trooper stopped Ard around 4:30am on SC 51 (Pamplico Highway). The initial stop was for speeding, but Gulden said the trooper then charged Ard with DUI. Gulden would not say if a field sobriety test was given or provide any other details about the arrest.
Ken Ard, a Florence County councilman, is facing Democrat Ashley Cooper in the race for the Lt. Governor's seat.
