Another candidate in the running for Myrtle Beach City Council

A local businesswoman has announced she is running for Myrtle Beach City Council.

Jackie Vereen will be on the ballot on November 5th when Myrtle Beach voters will elect a mayor and three council members.

Vereen serves as General Manager of her family's local hotel business.

In a release, Vereen said, "We need to restore our city back to a safe, friendly, and clean beach that draws visitors back each year and makes everyone feel welcome, as well as provide our permanent residents with outstanding service and a quality of life."

Filing to run in the November 5th election ends at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

As of Thursday, September 5, the following candidates had announced they are running.

Myrtle Beach Mayor: John Rhodes (i)

Myrtle Beach City Council: Wayne Gray (i), Randal Wallace (i), Mike Lowder (i), Keith Van Winkle, Jackie Vereen

Also on November 5, Myrtle Beach city voters will decide in a referendum if the city may issue up to $10 million in bonds to pay for a performing arts center.
