Sheriff's deputies searching for missing elderly woman in Orangeburg
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) – The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in finding a senior citizen who’s gone missing.
Eighty-six-year-old Hattie Edwards was last seen just before noon Thursday at a truck stop on Highway 301 where he was helping a relative with vehicle trouble.
“If anyone has any information on Mrs. Edwards’ location, please call us or your local law enforcement agency immediately,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. We want to bring this lady home as soon as possible.”
Ravenell said that around 8 p.m. Thursday family members reported Edwards missing. She had left her Surrey Race Road home around 10 a.m. to assist her son, who had run out of gas on Hwy. 21 in Colleton County.
She had not been seen by family members nor her stranded son by 6 p.m., according to the department.
Investigators did, however, track down a motorist who had been at Love’s Truck Stop on Hwy 301 around 11:55 a.m.
The motorist said he had loaned Edwards his phone when he noticed she seemed distressed. Edwards explained to the motorist she was trying to find her son and had gotten lost.
The motorist and the victim’s son gave her new direction to the son’s location. The motorist told investigators Edwards seemed to understand the directions.
Edwards is described as a light-skinned black female standing about 5-foot-2 and weighing around 150 lbs. She is driving a Kia Forte.
Below is a photo of a Kia Forte that is comparable to Mrs. Edwards Kia. The photo is NOT her car and the color may vary.
If anyone has any information about the case, they’re asked to call the department at 803-534-3550.
