Police: Man on I-526 shot at his own car, ran into woods

Police responding to reported shooting on I-526

Police say there were definitely gunshots fired in what was reported as a shooting on I-526 Monday morning, but the circumstance were not what some people claimed to witness.

North Charleston Police Department spokesman Spencer Pryor said officers were dispatched at around 7 a.m. to the area of I-526 and I-26 and took a man into custody.

"It appears a male subject exited the vehicle he was driving and being firing shots at his own vehicle and running away stating 'people are after me,' Pryor said.

Pryor confirmed the man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He said officers did not find any evidence that anyone else was involved in the incident.
