NTBA National Champions crowned on Grand Strand

The Wilmington Waves won the 7th grade NTBA National Championship on Sunday.

The Wilmington Waves won the 7th grade basketball national championship in the National Travel Basketball Association tournament at Socastee High on Sunday.

The Waves beat Team Heat Elite from Forest City 52-50 in a battle of North Carolina all-star teams. Tai Freeman hit the game-winning shot with 4.4 seconds left in regulation.

It was the second national championship for the Wilmington Waves. They won the 6th grade division at this tournament one year ago.

Nine national champions were crowned in what is called the Gold Division. Click here for all the scores from the tournament, which featured 303 teams from across the country.
