Man, 73, who pleaded guilty to killing wife sentenced to 25 years in prison
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
A 73-year-old Hollywood man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and weapons charges stemming from the fatal shooting of his wife.
David Greene killed his wife of 48 years, Shirlee Greene, as she sat on her bed talking to a family members about Thanksgiving plans in late October of 2015.
“In effect, Judge Dennis sentenced the Defendant to life, which is an important message for domestic violence killers," said Solicitor Scarlett Wilson.
The case was prosecuted by Charles Condon, Jr., and Culver Kidd of the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
“Judge Dennis’ sentence and our prosecution will send a message that domestic violence homicides will be taken seriously and punished accordingly," Condon said.
When deputies arrived at the Hollywood home, Greene was sitting on his front porch with the shotgun between his legs.
Deputies ordered him to put down the gun, but he refused. Deputies used a K-9 unit to distract Greene and took him into custody.
