Former WPDE All Zoner looking for an MMA career

Newsome has a 3-1 MMA record as an amateur

In 2007, Wil Newsome was a fixture on WPDE's Friday night Chevy End Zone as the quarterback of the Hartsville Red Foxes. Newsome along with running back Bennett Saunders and wide receiver Jordan Lyles all represented the Red Foxes on the 2007 WPDE All-Zone team. The three athletes went different paths in athletics. Saunders played football at Presbyterian while Lyles has played in the big leagues with the Houston Astros and is currently in AAA awaiting a second trip to the majors.

Newsome went the route of mixed martial arts and has enjoyed early success in the octagon as an amateur posting a 3-1 record. He's currently a senior at Coastal Carolina and trying to get an opportunity to fight professionally. Newsome's next bout is scheduled for May 12th in Mooresville, North Carolina.
