The Colleton County Sheriff's Office has arrested three more people in connection to a cockfighting ring busted Saturday night outside Cottageville.

Colleton County deputies initially arrested 28 people when they responded to reports of a possible cockfight off Sullivans Ferry Road Saturday night.

According to the sheriff's office, a total of 31 people have now been arrested, 17 of whom are still in jail being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The sheriff's office says none of the people arrested, except the property owner, are residents of Colleton County.

In addition to the arrests, Colleton County deputies reportedly seized several pieces of gamecock fighting paraphernalia, and $36,623.42 in U.S. currency.

Colleton County Animal Control seized 65 live gamecocks and 25 dead gamecocks from the scene, as well.

“From all appearances this seemed to be a very organized criminal event, from the fighting ring, to the housing and transportation of the animals, and also the equipment used on the animals to engage in the actual fighting,” said Lt. Tyger Benton, spokesperson for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
