A scammer cheated Appalachian State University out of nearly $2 million.

It all started with an email at Appalachian State, where a construction company is working on the school's new health science college. Someone posing as the company's finance technician emailed ASU with new routing information for a bogus bank account.

Court documents show the university didn't know about the error until eight days after the money was transferred.

The FBI has recovered more than $1.5 million.

So far, no arrests have been made.
