Opening statements will get underway Tuesday morning at the Marion County Courthouse in the murder trials of Marco Sanders and Tyrell Woods.

Deputies said the men robbed and shot to death Samuel Rowell, 71, at his home on Phil Court in the Friendship community of Marion County July 4, 2012.

Rowell was gagged with his hands tied behind his back and his ankles duct taped together, according to officers.

"This was a senseless killing senseless cold, blooded assassination," said Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson at the time.

The trial is expected to last through the week.

If Sanders and Woods are convicted, they face 20 years to life in prison.
