Two Myrtle Beach men have been arrested and charged in connection with interfering with the case involving the disappearance of Heather Elvis.
William Christopher Barrett, 52, and Garrett Ryan Starnes, 25, have been arrested and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Barrett is accused of posting misleading information on a social media site regarding Elvis' disappearance, according to a press release by Horry County Police. This information created a diversion to investigating officers, they said. Police also say they discovered that he conducted his own investigation and questioned a witness in an attempt to gain information about the official investigation. He's also accused of not reporting evidence uncovered in his own independent search.
Starnes is accused of fabricating misleading information about the case to law enforcement officials, according to the release. This information was posted on a social media site, and resulted in officers tracking down false leads, according to the release.
