The man Surfside Beach police say was involved in a string of burglaries was arrested in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Surfside Beach police say Billy Jack Hanna was arrested at a homeless shelter. The SUV he is accused of stealing was found near the shelter.
Hanna is being held on a charge of fugitive from justice.
Surfside Beach police hope to have him extradited to South Carolina in about 30 days.
In a press release, Police Chief Mike Frederick said the interaction and cooperation among the involved law enforcement agencies was the key to the investigation's success, but added local media exposure in the Myrtle Beach area generated dozens of leads.
"The information we garnered from citizens here led directly to this man's capture," Frederick said, "and we're extremely grateful for that. No law enforcement organization can fight these battles alone."
