Registered sex offender sentenced for crimes involving a minor

Timothy Schaefer

Timothy Schaefer, 36, was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday, after he pleaded guilty to charges of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, according to the Darlington County Clerk of Court's Office.

Probation agents went to Schaefer's home on Halloween night in 2011, for a routine inspection because he was a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 2007 for a sex crime.

Schaefer was found to be in violation of his probation because there were children in the home that Halloween evening.

Agents also found pornographic pictures of children and four sexually-explicit pictures he took himself of a girl on Schaefer's computer.

He has to serve at least 85% of his prison sentence before he's eligible for parole.

The South Carolina Attorney General's Office prosecuted this case.
