Police: Man threw nude woman from balcony

Myrtle Beach Police arrested a 17-year-old South Carolina man for throwing a naked woman from a second story hotel balcony.

James Cody Epley from Swansea, SC, is charged with first degree assault after police say he tossed the 18-year-old from the second floor of the Sea Dunes Hotel.

It happened around 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Ocean Boulevard, and several witnesses said they first heard screams.

"She was struggling to get away," said Candace Baker who was walking by the hotel with her husband when she heard the screams.

Baker described seeing a man come up behind the woman and push her over the balcony. Baker ran to help the woman who she described as injured, but willing to tell Baker what happened.

"He tried to choke her and rape her, and when she realized what he was doing, she tried to run, and that's when she got thrown over," Baker said.

Police arrested Epley and took him to the Myrtle Beach Jail where he remained as of this posting. Police say more charges are possible.
