Horry County Police Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night at the French Quarters on 30th Avenue South in Atlantic Beach.
According to a police report released Thursday afternoon, police were called to an apartment complex around 9 p.m. in reference to a shooting.
A woman with an injury to her upper lip and blood covering her shirt approached police when they arrived. Police asked her where the shooting victim was and she pointed to an apartment.
When they went into the apartment, police found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his stomach. The report says the man was conscious and alert, but was in too much pain to give police much information. The man was taken to the hospital.
The woman told police that one of the men involved in the shooting pistol whipped her in the face. She said she didn't know why the shooting happened.
According to the police report, witnesses said the woman pulled a knife on the man who pistol whipped her, but police did not find a knife.
Police found a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson shell casing in the apartment where the shooting victim was found, as well as a projectile.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday, according to Lt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police.
