Illegal steroids were being manufactured in Scotland County and distributed across the United States and China, according to Captain Jon Edwards with the Scotland County Sheriff's Office.

Edwards said they've shut down the business and confiscated $75,000 in illegal steroids, which is the largest seizure of its kind in the Eastern Region of North Carolina.

He says deputies are continuing to seize steroids and other assets associated with the operation.

Investigators have yet to make any arrests, but are going through a mountain of documents seized in the bust that include the names of customers, addresses, orders and invoices, Edwards said.

Those documents could reveal the names of those directly involved in the operation.

Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones said he would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies that helped in the investigation.

Jones said he's committed to the pursuit and continued prosecution of those involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
