Motorcyclist dies in North Myrtle Beach accident

A motorcyclist visiting the Myrtle Beach Spring Harley Rally died in a crash Tuesday night.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick says Rocky Lane Huneycutt, 49, of Albemarle, N.C., died just before 6:00 p.m. after his motorcycle was hit by a truck in North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach Public Information officer Pat Dowling says the driver of Ford F-150, Larry Hardee, 62, has been charged with Felony DUI and Failure to Yield Right of Way.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Sea Mountain Highway and Hill Street. According to the incident report, Hardee failed to yield right of way to oncoming traffic when making a left turn onto Hill Street while traveling East on Sea Mountain Highway. The report says Hardee pulled out in front of the motorcycle being driven at a safe speed by Huneycutt. Four witnesses gave officers statements. Hardee was arrested after taking a field sobriety test at the scene.

Huneycutt died of head and chest injuries at Seacoast Medical Center in Little River.

Hardee is a former Myrtle Beach police officer. The department says he served on the force for nearly 21 years. Hardee was hired in July 1975 and retired in June 1996.

Hardee will have a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in North Myrtle Beach.
