Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's office arrested Ashley Nicole Matthews, 23, on Thursday for Unlawful Neglect of a Child.
On March 1, Florence County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Florence County EMS were called to Matthews' home for a 14-month-old child who was not breathing, according to investigators.
Emergency crews started CPR and took the child to the hospital. At the hospital, the child was placed on a ventilator. Following extensive medical treatment, the child recovered and was released from the hospital, according to investigators.
Police say the child ingested an unknown amount of Methadone from an open container left by the subject within reach of the toddler.
Following release from the hospital, DSS placed the child in the custody of a family member.
Under South Carolina law, Unlawful Neglect of a Child is a felony punishable by a fine in the discretion of the court or up to 10 years in prison, or both.
