The Horry County Sheriff's Office has a new member, and his name is Kane.
Kane is a Sable German Shepherd, two years old, and is a certified drug dog.
Kane's partner is Deputy Kenneth Martinelli, who has been with the sheriff's office since 2005.
This is the first time the sheriff's office has had a K9.
Kane will be primarily used to detect drugs at the Horry County Detention Center, but he'll also be used in home detention searches and vehicle checkpoints.
Kane and Deputy Martinelli recently completed a 120 hour narcotic certification from Enforcement K9 in Wilmington, NC.
Thanks to donations, Kane is also getting a bullet proof vest.
