Horry County police arrest two on drug charges

      Jerry Wayne Vereen

Horry County police arrested two men Wednesday for Distribution of Crack Cocaine.

Police say they got reports of drug activity on Bellamy Drive in Little River. They say an undercover agent bought crack cocaine from Krishmer Shamar Bessent, 31, and Jerry Wayne Vereen, 55.

Both are being held at the J. Rueben Long Detention Center.

A third person was arrested in the area for Driving Under Suspension when driving to the area where the drug transaction took place.

Bessent is the same man who was involved in an incident in May of last year with Horry County Police, while an officer was trying to arrest him on a warrant for assault and battery. Bessent was hit several times by officer Charles Dean while being arrested on May 18, 2009. The Horry County Police Department cleared Dean of wrongdoing. At the time the NAACP called for an investigation, but later dropped its request. Bessent's mug shot, taken after the May 2009 arrest, is also included with this story.
