Hartsville man sentenced to 40 years for killing a woman

Brannon Bryant/Darlington County Detention Center

A jury found Brannon Bryant guilty Thursday of Murder and Possession of Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime in the death of Shannon Thomas, 25.

Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles sentenced Bryant to 40 years in prison.

Bryant stabbed Thomas on June 8, 2012 at a home on 8th Street in Hartsville.

Prosecutors said Thomas was able to run from the home to a neighbor's for help.

She collapsed on the neighbor's porch, and that's where she died from injuries suffered in the stabbing.

Bryant has to serve at least 85% of his prison sentence before he's eligible for parole.

Fourth Circuit Assistant Solicitors Patti McKenzie and John Holt prosecuted the case.
