A teenage boy is recovering from injuries after he was shot at a park Sunday evening on Fifth Avenue in Pamplico, according to Pamplico Police Chief Steven Bowen.
The 17-year-old plays football for the Hannah Pamplico High School Raiders, according to head coach Al Calcutt.
Calcutt said the teen is a junior and played offensive and defensive positions for the team.
Police said the boy's injuries aren't life threatening, but Calcutt added at this point they're not sure if the teen will be able to return to the team this season.
"I'm glad it wasn't real bad. It could have been worse. We're just gonna take it day by day and see what happens," said Coach Al Calcutt.
There were 30 to 40 people at the park at the time of the shooting, Bowen said.
No one else was injured, he said.
Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man in connection with the shooting.
Bowen said additional information will be released Monday afternoon.
