A horrific crash on Highway 17 Business between Highway 544 and the front gate of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base killed one person, and an 18-year-old was arrested for Felony DUI.
It happened about 1:20 p.m. Saturday across from Pirateland Campground in the southbound lane of 17 Business.
South Carolina Highway Patrol says a Jeep heading north crossed the grass median and hit a van that was going south head-on.
There were six people in the van. One of the passengers, Wesley Samuel, 52 of Columbia, was killed.
The other five were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Jeep, Jordy Wayne Calhoun, 18, of Conway was also taken to the hospital and then to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He's charged with two counts of Felony DUI. One count for causing death and one count for causing great bodily injury.
Calhoun was also charged with not having a drivers license, and operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.
Calhoun's bond was set at $50,700 on Monday.
The two lanes of southbound 17 Business were closed for several hours.
