A man who showed up at Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville is believed to have been burned in a mobile meth lab, according to Captain Jay Childers with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Childers says a call came into 9-1-1 of a car being on fire on Highway 38 North in the Hamlet community near Rockingham just after 4:45 p.m. Monday.

He says when deputies got to the scene, they spotted items used to manufacture meth along side the road.

They immediately put out an alert for neighboring law enforcement to be on the lookout for a burn victim who may seek treatment at the hospital.

Marlboro County Sheriff's deputies notified investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office when a man showed up at Marlboro Park Hospital with burns on his body.

Childers isn't sure how badly the man was burned.

Officers are gathering evidence from his car to determine if the fire started from someone making meth. So far, no one has been charged.
