Deputies investigating 18th homicide in Robeson County

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is investigating its 18th homicide this year after a man was shot and killed Monday night outside a home on Cameo Road in the Parkton community.

Robeson County Sheriff's Major Anthony Thompson said 911 dispatchers received a call from a woman about her van being stolen by her former boyfriend, Reginald Howard.

Thompson said as deputies were heading to the woman's home, they spotted the stolen van.

Thompson said Howard jumped out of the van and ran into the woods

Deputies were trying to find him when they heard gunshots coming from the woman's home on Cameo Road, so Thompson said they headed back in that direction.

The officers found Howard lying in the front yard of the home, and he had been shot several times, Thompson said.

Howard's former girlfriend and her 16-year-old son were walking around in the yard, Thompson said.

Deputies haven't arrested anyone, but Thompson said they have a person of interest.

Investigators will consult with the Robeson County District Attorney about the findings of this investigation.

This is the second homicide that Robeson County police were called to on Monday. A woman was also found shot to death in her home in Lumberton on Monday. That was the 17th homicide of the year for the county.
