Conway man charged with owning dogs used to fight

Scar on dog seized by Conway Police.

Conway police have charged Earl Dion Busbee, 34, of Conway with Owning or Harboring an Animal for Fighting or Attacking.

Last Thursday, animal control officers with Conway police were called to assist officers from the 15th Judicial Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit with six dogs in the backyard of a home where they were executing a search warrant.

Four of the dogs were secured by log chains and two were in pens inside a fenced enclosure.

Inside that fenced enclosure, police say they found a Dogtrotter USA treadmill used for dog training and conditioning, along with harnesses, logging chains, and a hide attached to a pulley system used to entice the dogs to bite and lock onto.

A rooster, with its spurs removed, was also located in a cage inside the fenced enclosure.

Two of the dogs had scarring on their heads and bodies consistent with dog fighting, police said.

The animals are now in the care of Horry County's Animal Care Center.
