Charges filed in connection to shots fired at troopers

Charges have been filed in connection with a vehicle pursuit on Saturday that resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and troopers with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Richard Lee Cochran IV, 20, from Conway is charged with three counts of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon during Violent Crime, Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Failure to Stop for a Blue Light.

Shannon Marie Keiser, 33, of Conway is charged with Obstructing Justice.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 319 and Enoch Road in Aynor Saturday around 6:10 p.m. in reference to assisting the South Carolina Highway Patrol in a vehicle Pursuit, according to a police report.

An officer joined the pursuit at that location in an effort to assist, the report says.

The pursuit continued down Highway 319 back towards Conway until the suspect took the ramp onto Highway 22, where he hit a guardrail, police say.

Cochran continued traveling on Highway 22 for a short time and began firing a weapon out his window, striking the Highway Patrol car, according to the report.

Cochran then left the road into a grassy area, where he fled on foot and continued shooting at law enforcement, police say.

Law enforcement did return fire, according to the report.

There were no injuries during the incident.

Keiser was a passenger in the vehicle and attempted to flee, but was taken into custody, police say.

Both Cochran and Keiser are being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
