911 tapes released in Myrtle Beach shooting

Police announced Friday afternoon they have arrested a teenage-suspect in the shooting and we now have copies of the 9-1-1 calls from that night.

NewsChannel 15 listened to 9-1-1 tapes from both Horry County and the City of Myrtle Beach. Several people called 9-1-1 early Sunday morning saying someone had been shot. That someone, was 20-year-old Corey Brooks.

During one call, you can hear Corey's friends screaming for him to wake up.

Operator: "Listen!"

Caller: "Yes?"

Operator: "Which shoulder was he shot in, his right or his left?"

Caller: "He's dead, he's dead! He's not even moving!"

The whole incident police say appears to have started after a dispute over a parking spot near a beach house on Third Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

Caller: "These guys, they tried to park in my front yard and they, they pulled out a gun."

Caller: "He pulled out a gun and he tried to hit my friends with it and he said 'Yo, I'm strapped, I'm strapped."

The men drove off after the shooting and the callers are heard giving 911 operators several vehicle descriptions.

Operator: "You said the tag on the vehicle was South Carolina 513, S like Sharon, P like Papa and X like Xray?"

Caller: "Yea."

P olice told us Monday that car had nothing to do with the shooting.

Callers stayed on the line with 911 operators until the first officers arrived on the scene. At one point, they are heard trying to perform CPR on Brooks.

Police arrested 17 year old Demario Martell Stukes. He is a student at Myrtle Beach High School.

Right now he's being held at the Myrtle Beach jail, and he has not yet been formally charged.

In addition to Myrtle Beach Police, the State Law Enforcement Division, and the Horry County Solicitor's Office are helping with the investigation.
