New Ten Oaks Middle School opens in Carolina Forest
Horry County, S.C. (WPDE) —
Ten Oaks Middle School is now open in the Carolina Forest community of Horry County.
A new traffic light was just turned on last week on Carolina Forest Boulevard at Revolutionary War Way, the road the school is on, and some drivers got caught in traffic last week on the heavily congested street.
But, on Wednesday morning, parents dropping off their kids on the first day back to school told us it was smooth sailing.
They say the light will help alleviate traffic. "I think it is for the better, so people can respect when we get out of school and when we come in. The community is growing, we need to understand and grow together, " said parent Lheiner Roberts.
Corporal Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol said the new light will just take some getting used to. "It's going to take a little extra time especially with school traffic. But it should get better as we move through a few days and most of the parents are then getting into the routine of dropping kids off and learning how to get in and out of the school."
Corporal Collins reminds drivers with new schools and students in Horry County, bus routes do change every year. Even if you're familiar with where kids gather in the mornings or afternoons to be picked up, the locations and pickup times could be different than in years past.
