As kids go back to school, Horry County Fire Rescue warns about dangers for children who are home alone after school.

HCFR Public Information Officer Mark Nugent recommends having emergency numbers posted on your refrigerator, and said to remember to post them at your child's eye level.

He points out an extra zero on the microwave can make a big difference, bumping a 3:00 cook time to 30 minutes and it can be dangerous for children to use the stove.

He suggests leaving after school snacks that are ready to eat and don't require heat.

He also recommends for everyone to make sure they have a working smoke detector.
