School district cracks down on cleavage

Florence School District One Board of Trustees approved recommendations to impose stricter consequences on the dress code as it relates to the showing of cleavage.

The dress code currently states female students shirts, blouses and tops must cover the midsection, according to board member Pat Gibson Hye Moore.

The board added a clause that says the clothing will not show cleavage, Moore said.

Some board members say school staff should adhere to the same dress code policy because some staff members aren't dressing professional.

They say some staff members show too much chest, wear jeans and flip flops.

Moore says school officials are expected to dress appropriately to be examples for the students.

District administrators will revisit the school officials dress code and make recommendations to the board, Moore said.

The new dress code goes into effect next school term.
