How Florence School District 3 plans to save money in superintendent search

The Florence County School District Three Board of Trustees has announced that it plans to hire a new superintendent by February 2015 to replace Dr. V. Keith Callicutt.

Dr. Callicutt was originally hired in 2011 as an interim superintendent. By mutual agreement between the board and Dr. Callicutt, he has continued as the district's superintendent for three additional years.

The board plans to conduct a search on its own, rather than pay an estimated $15,000 to have the South Carolina School Boards Association or another third party conduct the search.

Board members say they will rely on the expertise of Dr. Callicutt and board member Dr. Lane Floyd, a retired superintendent of Florence County School District Three.

The board plans to adopt a timeline for the superintendent search and will hold public meetings to give the community an opportunity to express what characteristics they want in the next superintendent.

We'll let you know when those meetings are scheduled.

Florence School District One is still looking for a superintendent to replace Dr. Allie Brooks who retired in June.

The district has hired Dr. Cleo Richardson as interim superintendent until a permanent one is hired.
