Florence-Darlington Tech signs "bridge" agreement with FMU

Florence-Darlington Technical College will sign an agreement with Francis Marion University, making it easier for students to transfer from FDTC to FMU, according to a news release.

The partnership agreement calls for both institutions to provide ways for students to become acclimated to college and university life and provides methods for both colleges to make the application processes seamless for prospective students, the release said.

Students who apply to the Bridge Program will receive special counseling about FMU academic requirements and will also get a Bridge ID. The ID card will allow them to use the FMU library and attend university sporting events.

FMU also agrees to provide space in its dorms for Bridge students and designate professors to teach Introduction to University classes at FDTC.

FDTC President Dr. Ben Dillard called the agreement "a win-win for both schools."

Dillard and FMU President Dr. Luther Fredrick Carter held an event on Wednesday, August 27, at FMU' s Performing Arts Center in downtown Florence at 11 a.m.
