Construction on the largest elementary school in the Pee Dee nearly finished

Crews are putting the final touches on North Vista Elementary School in North Florence. It's set to open August 18 when students return to class.

The 105,000 square foot school is the largest elementary school in the Pee Dee, according to officials with the Florence School District One.

It passed all state safety inspections last week.

It replaces a 60-year-old school that was outdated and in need of repair.

The new school is state-of-the-art with modern day technology and can accommodate up to 1,200 students.

Florence School District One Board of Trustees member Pat Gibson Hye-Moore said the community of North Florence is overjoyed about the new school.

She believes it will fuel commercial and economic development in the community.

"The area is estatic. They're so happy to see this coming to the North Florence area. And also, it's the largest elementary school in the Florence School District One district. So, it means a lot to the residents and students of North Vista Elementary School. It's just gonna be so good for that community. It's gonna build up the economy in that community a lot , I think. It's gonna help," said Moore.

An open house will be held August 16.

School district leaders have built four new elementary and middle schools in the past three years.
