Coastal Leadership Academy leaders cut the ribbon for its new high school Thursday morning.
The charter school is on Palmetto Pointe Boulevard in the Socastee area of Horry County.
The school aims to create a sense of community, with parent-involvement, teacher office hours and a coffee-shop like cafeteria.
"We want them to have a feel that this is a community that they can be involved in, where they can learn, and not just a place to go and have to complete assignments," said the school's principal, Melinda Tabernier.
Seniors will be able to spend time interning to try to figure out what they want to do when they graduate.
The school has been in the works for two years.
105 students are enrolled right now, but the school hopes to have 150 to 160 by the time it opens in the fall.
