Two people die and two hospitalized after car wreck

Two people died and two others are in serious condition after a car wreck just a mile north of Conway Saturday afternoon.

It happened at Hallie Martin Road and Highway 501.

Cpl. Judd Jones with Highway Patrol says when the driver of a Plymouth crossed over 501 from Hallie Martin Road, the driver of a Jeep traveling southbound on highway 501 hit the left side of the car.

Both drivers died at the scene. Deputy Coroner Tony Hendricks says the victim in the Jeep is a Jason Christopher West, 31, of Conway and the victim in the Plymouth is a Gabriel S. Johnson, 23, also of Conway. Both died from multiple trauma. Jones says both drivers were wearing seatbelts

Two other passengers in the Jeep were flown to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Jones adds a portion of Highway 501 was closed for about 30 minutes because of the wreck.
