Late Friday night, Myrtle Beach Police charged Kelly Jerome McNeil, 42, of Myrtle Beach, in the death of Joe Nathan James of Conway.

Myrtle Beach police say the shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. Friday at 6314 Wedgewood Street.

When officers arrived they found Joe James, 43 of Conway, lying in the street. James died of at least one gunshot wound that caused massive hemorrhaging, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

James was pronounced dead at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at 2:10 a.m.

Witnesses told police they heard people yelling at each other in the parking lot before shots were fired.

Officers say information led them to a suspects apartment at Alta Surf. The Horry County SWAT team and Negotiation Team talked McNeil into surrendering. McNeil is being held at the Myrtle Beach jail.
