Georgetown man wanted for Attempted Murder

James Dewey Mercer, 53, of Georgetown. Mercer is wanted for Attempted Murder after deputies say he shot his friend Saturday evening.


responded to 155 Dutch Court shortly before 8:00 p.m. after Mercer called 911stating he shot his friend

, according to deputies.

When officers arrived on scene, they learned Mercer ran in the wooded area behind his residence, deputies say. The victim was taken to another location by a friend where he was picked up by EMS and transported to Georgetown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to deputies.

The victim told sheriff's deputies he and Mercer had been drinking together all day and began arguing shortly after 7:00 p.m. which was followed by a physical altercation. The victim left the residence at 155 Dutch Court and began walking towards his residence. When the victim left the residence, Mercer went back into his residence and came back out with a rifle

, said deputies

. The victim told officers it was at this point when Mercer shot at him striking him in the buttocks.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Bloodhound Team was deployed and searched a wooded area behind Mercer's residence with no results. Georgetown County Sheriff's Investigators are currently investigating the incident.
