Former Timmonsville police chief is honored

Friday night, a Timmonsville man received the Order of the Silver Crescent, the state's highest honor for volunteerism and community service.

A crowd filled the cafeteria of Timmonsville High School to celebrate Johnny E. Wright.

The 84-year-old was the first black police chief in Timmonsville, and he served many years on council.

He received the Order of the Silver Crescent from Governor Mark Sanford's office.
