A company that is bringing 350 jobs to the Pee Dee made its first permanent stake in the area Tuesday.
The Heinz Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony at Pee Dee Touchstone Energy Commerce City where it will be located off Highway 327.
In a few weeks, construction will start on the company's 225,000 square foot facility.
This is part of the company's expansion of their frozen meals division. County officials are excited about the jobs Heinz is bringing to the Pee Dee.
"We have a lot of citizens in the Pee Dee looking for employment, and we feel like this is the answer. Not just minimum wages, but jobs are going to pay good money," said Florence County Council Member, Waymon Mumford.
Governor Mark Sanford and several local politicians took part in the ceremony.
The company plans to open its new plant next summer.
