Carolina Forest home invasion turns into shooting

Horry County police responded to a home in Carolina Forest on Sunday night after a shooting was reported there.

When officers arrived on scene at the home off Belle Glen Court, they met with a witness who said two men came into the home, put a gun to the head of the victim, and told everyone to lay face down on the ground, according to a police report.

The witness told police the next thing he remembered was hearing a gun shot and running out of the house, the report added.

The victim was taken to Conway Medical Center by another one of the witnesses in the home.

Police say the injury appears to be non-life threatening at this time.

Both suspects were armed with handguns, according to Sgt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department.

Police later questioned the victim at the hospital and the victim said the men came into the home and threatened his family.

The victim told the men that he would give them what they wanted if they left his family alone, so the men followed the victim into a different room where he gave them $1,200 and when the men were not paying attention, the victim was able to get the gun away from one man, but was shot by the other, the report states.

The victim said he knew one of the men who broke in very well because they were childhood friends.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating.
