Annual golf tournament and benefit raises money for local heroes
Murrells Inlet, S.C. (WPDE) —
Staff at Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet showed their gratitude to local heroes this past weekend.
On Saturday, they hit the golf course for the fifth year in a row and on Sunday the celebrated with live music and food for a two-day event called Local Heroes Benefit.
To date, Dead Dog has raised close to $250,000 to support local fire and police departments.
"We use that day to remember what happened on that fateful day 15 years ago," said Charlie Campbell, owner of Dead Dog Saloon, "and we donate everything. All the food is free that day, our bands perform for free, and our staff donates their time."
This year, Campbell says they're also collecting money for Huntington Beach State Park following the fire at the nature center earlier this summer.
