Wheeler and Noel drafted in fifth round of MLB Draft

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina University junior baseball players Cody Wheeler (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) and Rico Noel (Lawton, Okla./Lawton) both were drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft June 8. Wheeler was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks, while Noel was selected by the San Diego Padres.
Wheeler is 12-0 with a 3.59 earned-run average in 17 appearances for the Chanticleers in 2010. He was named to the All-Myrtle Beach Regional Tournament team after pitching a complete game shutout in a win over Stony Brook and earning the win by throwing the final three innings of the College of Charleston win. Wheeler leads the Big South with 111 strikeouts and a .247 opponent's batting average in 107.2 innings pitched.
Noel was the Myrtle Beach Regional Most Valuable Player and is hitting .348 with 18 doubles, 11 home runs and 62 runs-batted-in for the Chanticleers. He has a .587 slugging percentage and a .464 on-base percentage and leads the Chanticleers with 56 stolen bases. He has 81 runs scored and is second on the team with 80 hits. Noel hit a walk-off home run in the 8-7 win over the College of Charleston and had a streak of six straight hits in the regional.
Coastal Carolina hosts the 2010 Myrtle Beach Super Regional Saturday, June 12 at 12 p.m. The game is televised on ESPNU.
