Amber Campbell skipping Opening Ceremony, focused on competition

Amber Campbell could be in London's Olympic Stadium for tonight's opening ceremonies, but has chosen to focus on preparing for her competition in the women's hammer throw. Campbell will represent the USA on Wednesday, August 8th when she throws in the preliminaries. If Amber finishes in the top 12, the finals are set for Friday, August 10th.

"I'm loving how my throws are going right now, so I'd rather focus on the competition and being successful at the games rather than the ceremony of it all," Campbell told WPDE Sports. Amber says she will watch the Opening Ceremony tonight with family and friends and will attend the closing ceremonies. Campbell leaves for London on Friday, August 3rd.

Campbell will share her Olympic experience with WPDE viewers and with a daily Olympic diary beginning on Saturday, August 4th. Campbell will show you the sights and sounds of the 2012 games from her perspective in a daily video report from the Olympic Village, her competition in the hammer throw, and a chance to meet athletes from all over the world.

The former Coastal Carolina All-American is making her second appearance in the Olympics. She finished 21st in the Beijing Games.
