Amber Campbell does not qualify for women's hammer throw final

Five time All-American Amber Campbell from Coastal Carolina competed in her first Olympics on Monday morning in Beijing. Campbell finished 21st in the women's hammer throw competition. The top 12 finishers advanced to the finals. Campbell's first throw of 67.86 meters got her off to a good start, but Amber faulted on her final two throws. Campbell finished 9th overall in Pool B, with 12 throws from Pool A topping her mark. The 12th qualifier, Stiliani Papadopoulou of Greece had a throw of 69.36 meters making Amber 1.5 meters short of making it to the finals. Yipsi Moreno of Cuba had the top throw of 73.92 meters.

Campbell plans on continuing to train in Myrtle Beach through Sports Doctors, Inc. and hopes to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.
